  5. What are the ARC’s hours of operation?

  6. From September to May, the ARC opens at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 5:00 p.m.
    From June to August, the ARC opens at 9:00 a.m. and closes at 4:00 p.m.

  7. What services does the ARC offer?

  8. The ARC is committed to helping First Nations, Inuit and Métis students by providing the following services to help them enhance their academic skills:

    • academic guidance and counselling
    • service referrals
    • peer-help support
    • tutorial accommodation
    • information on scholarships and bursaries
    • employment services
    • Aboriginal legal referral services
    • use of fax and telephone for academic purposes
    • student lounge equipped with computers, DVD/Blu-ray player & TV
    • Visiting Elder program
    • community liaison
    • information sessions for new students
    • campus tours (individual or group)
    • information on local Aboriginal services, programs, and social and cultural events.

  9. Does the ARC organize social activities?

  10. Yes. The ARC organizes monthly student luncheons, arranges for guest speakers to come in and organizes social and cultural activities.

  11. Is the ARC open during the spring and summer sessions?

  12. Yes. However, the ARC has shorter summer hours from June until the end of August.

  13. At the ARC, can a student meet with an elder?

  14. Yes. The ARC tries to have an elder visit regularly.

  15. At the ARC, can a student find information about jobs?

  16. Yes. ARC staff regularly receives job postings, which are then made available to the students. Moreover, ARC staff is equipped to assist students in their job searches.

  17. When was the ARC established?

  18. The Aboriginal Resource Centre (ARC) opened its doors on September 15, 1997, and was officially opened on February 13, 1998. This marked the beginning of a new relationship between the University of Ottawa and Aboriginal peoples, especially Aboriginal students, who are a significant part of the University.
