The Aboriginal Resource Centre
Services Offered
The Aboriginal Resource Centre provides the following services to help students enhance their academic skills:
- Academic guidance and counselling: Whether you want to discuss your schedule, your living arrangements, your studies, or a personal matter, the Counsellor for Aboriginal students is available to talk with you.
- Peer help support / Tutorial accommodation / Service referrals: Are you looking for support in adjusting to university life or do you need help from your peers? We can help you with the process of finding the resources you need on and off campus if you require assistance in writing papers, note taking or career development.
- Information on local Aboriginal services, programs, social and cultural events: We offer monthly student lunches and social and cultural activities on campus and in the Aboriginal community. Please register with us so that we may keep you updated on these social events and provide you with additional information on scholarships, bursaries, and job opportunities.
- Employment services: If you register with us, you will receive all student job postings as soon as we receive them.
- Aboriginal legal referral services: If you need legal advice on an issue, we will refer you to the Aboriginal Legal Services Division. Students who work in Legal Services are of Aboriginal ancestry.
- Computer lab and use of a fax machine, telephone and printer: You are welcome to use the computers in our computer lab. You can also use the fax machine, the telephone and the printer for academic purposes.
- Visiting elders program: Elders are invited to speak to the students on a monthly basis or as special guests for other events. They are also available to meet with you on an individual basis if requested.
