Are you a First Generation student?

If you are a student whose parents did not complete post-secondary education (college, CEGEP or university) in Canada, then you are considered a First Generation student. As a First Generation student, you may have specific needs and face different challenges in your transition to university life.

Approximately 20% of first-year University of Ottawa students are First Generation. As a First Generation student, you may be unsure of what is needed to succeed at university, or you may not be able to count on the same type of familial support as your "traditional student" peers. This is why SASS, in collaboration with the university's faculties, has developed a number of personalized programs and services to help you succeed academically and to enrich your university experience as a First Generation student.
