Web Accessibility Tips

Often, people mistakenly believe that a document posted online is openly accessible to all simply because it is "on the web". Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Depending on how the document was created, students using adaptive technologies may have difficulty accessing it.

If you have a website or course resources on the web, it is important to ensure that they are accessible to individuals with a disability. This includes HTML, Microsoft Word and Adobe documents. The University of Ottawa’s Computing and Communications Service provides an online accessibility resource for webmasters. This site outlines uOttawa best practices with respect to designing for web accessibility.

Accessibility Audit

If you have a document or website that you would like to be assessed for feedback, please contact the Access Service.
